Program Philosophy

Ideas change the world. To be a successful entrepreneur in the 21st century, you must be ready to solve real life problems, have profound knowledge within tech, and be an excellent communicator of your ideas.

Through Startup School Asia’s weekend programs and camps, students will not only gain new confidence and great friends, but will also have lots of fun while interactively deep diving into TECH, INNOVATION and ENTREPRENEURSHIP. We aim to encourage youth to pursue education in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) and follow career paths in those fields.

Startup School Asia graduates leave each program with a new entrepreneurial mindset, an instilled go-getting behavior, and the ability to develop problem solving technology.

Website + App Building

Computers are used all over the world. They help us work and communicate. They can be used for lots of fun activities, too. We can use them to watch movies, listen to music and play games. Today, almost everyone needs to know how to use them even at a basic level. The Internet not only contains an amazing variety of information but also provides new ways of accessing, interacting, and connecting with people and content. Some of these new ways include blogs, social networking, instant messaging, VoIP, and media.

The web is so popular that people often use the term Web to refer to the Internet, but they are not exactly the same thing. The World Wide Web cannot exist without the Internet but the Internet can exist without the World Wide Web. The backbone of the World Wide Web is made of HTML files, which are specially formatted documents that can contain links, as well as images and other media. All web browsers can read HTML files. In addition to HTML, it’s common for websites to use technologies like CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) and JavaScript to do more advanced things.

This program will give you the tools that you need to create your own content on the World Wide Web and build your own website. Let’s take the leap from becoming a consumer to a creator!

APPS BUILDING

We will use LiveCode, an integrated development environment that has access to all the tools you will need for creating applications. Apps built with LiveCode can be deployed across all popular platforms for mobile devices, desktop and server onWindows, Mac OS, Linux, iOS and Android. LiveCode has an easy to use drag and drop interface for creating your user interface and it uses English-like language to code your application. The simplicity of LiveCode provides a powerful foundation for you to explore Apps further.

Robotics (Micro:bit)

Once, robots were only found in science fiction books and movies. Today, robots are everywhere! They no longer just assemble massive cars and tiny computer chips, they also now help doctors perform delicate surgery, vacuum our houses and explore from sea to space. Robotics is a key technology in this modern world. Robots are fun!

The micro:bit is a tiny programmable computer, designed to make learning and teaching easy and fun. Micro:bit by BBC will introduce student to the joy of coding using JavaScript Block Editor and inventing. You can use your BBC micro:bit for all sorts of cool creations, from robots to musical instruments – the possibilities are endless. From dancing robots to banana keyboards, your micro:bit has all the features you need to code awesome stuff.

You can build casings with various everyday items to create a flexible low cost robotics platform for anyone from really young students getting started with the micro:bit to an engineer looking to quickly prototype or build a proof of concept. Making one’s personal device do whatever one imagines is empowering.

Tapping into young mind and releasing their creativity and imagination by introducing them to electronics and coding giving them limitless potential to develop and define the future. Computational thinking is the thought process involved in formulating a problem and expressing its solution in a way to enable a computer, human or machine to carry out the task effectively. The Micro:bit provides a playful way to explore this.

Robotics is a key technology in this modern world.

This program will introduce you to the exciting world of electronics and robotics where you will learn how robotics technology impacts society, both now and in the future. We hope this program will be the spark to ignite limitless possibilities for young people like yourself, who are curious and want to learn how to use technology to make your ideas come to life. This program takes an introductory approach to robotics, guiding students through essential electronics, mechanics, and programming skills (using Arduino C/C++ language) that are necessary to bring your idea to life and to build your own robot.
